• Applicant (including Hong Kong residents and Mainland residents) must have registered:
    • Individual Tax Portal (ITP) Account (applicable to sole-proprietorship, partnership and branch business of sole proprietorship)
    • Business Tax Portal (BTP) User Account (applicable to branch business)
  • Every person carrying on a business in Hong Kong must apply for business registration within 1 month from the commencement of the business.
  • Applicant may submit his/her application through eTAX at GovHK.
  • Documents needed for application for registration of a partnership business online:
    • Identification document of the partners (other than the applicant)
  • If the proprietor or any partner is not residing in Hong Kong, the applicant is required to separately submit the following information to the Business Registration Office after submitting the applications online:
    • the business details (see Sample Questions)
    • the original Appointment Letter of an agent for the purpose of Business Registration Ordinance (IRBR Form 177)(if the proprietor/all partners is/are not residing in Hong Kong)
    • photocopy of identification document of the agent

  • Applicant will generally receive a notification email, within 2 working days after successful submission of application, notifying him/her that the application result is available for download. The notification email will be sent to the e-mail address provided by the applicant
  • Applicant may use the service “View and Download Result of Application” under eTAX to obtain the Electronic Business Registration Certificate and/or reply with the Transaction Reference Number within 2 months of the issue of the notification email
