• Applicable to Hong Kong and Mainland residents.
  • Applicants with Hong Kong Identity Cards can submit online applications. Relevant steps are as follows:

    • Re-confirm submission

    • Acknowledgement
  • If the applicant is not a Hong Kong Identity Card holder, he/she may apply by post or authorize a representative to submit the application in person.

  • Search of Marriage Records
    • Fee
      • To apply for a certificate of absence of marriage record, the applicant is required to complete an application form and pay the prescribed fee for a search of marriage record, i.e. HK$140.
    • Payment methods
      • VISA, MasterCard, PPS or FPS.
  • Certificate of absence of marriage record
    • Fee
      • The prescribed fee for a certificate of absence of marriage record, HKD$680, should be paid at the time of collection at the selected marriage registry.
      • If the search result shows that the applicant has marriage record in Hong Kong, a letter of marriage record indicating the date(s) of previous marriage(s) will be issued with no additional fee.
    • Payment methods
      • If applicant opts to pay via online, he/she has to use the same payment method to settle all payments of the application. The Immigration Department will contact the applicant for the payment arrangement after receiving the application.
  • The application processing normally takes 7 working days.
  • If the search result shows that the applicants have no marriage record in Hong Kong, a certificate of absence of marriage record will be issued on payment of the prescribed fee. Otherwise, a letter of marriage record indicating the date(s) of the applicant’s previous marriage(s) will be issued.
  • For online application
    • When the applicant completes the online application, the collection date will be shown on the acknowledgement receipt.
    • The authorised representative is required to collect in person the application result at the selected registry.
    • The authorised representative is required to produce the following documents upon collection of the result:
      1. Copy of the applicant’s Hong Kong Identity Card or valid travel document
      2. Printout of online application acknowledgement
      3. Hong Kong Identity Card or valid travel document of the authorised representative
      4. Original copy of the authorisation letter
      5. Evidence supporting that the applicant is outside Hong Kong or that he/she is in Hong Kong but unable to collect the result in person
      6. Copy of the applicant’s travel document bearing his/her personal data and signature and properly certified by a Notary Public (applicable if the applicant’s travel document was not issued by the Hong Kong Immigration Department)
